Short Circuit is a podcast from The Hoser, a new independent digital media outlet in the Greater Toronto Area, and hosted by Shannon Carranco and Kevin Taghabon. Every week the show covers food insecurity, labour, and housing across the GTA and featuring guests with expertise and personal experience on the issues from an organizing, research and experiential perspective.

Shannon Carranco
Shannon Carranco is an investigative journalist in Toronto and a co-founder of The Hoser. She writes about labour, housing, the police, and social movements GTA. Since 2017, Shannon has written extensively on the Far Right in Canada with the Montreal Gazette, The National Post, and The Globe and Mail. She worked as an associate producer for CBC’s The Fifth Estate in 2019. In 2020 Shannon was nominated for a Digital Publishing Award for her work with The Globe and Mail, and in 2021 she and her team at The Fifth Estate won a Canadian Screen Award.
Kevin Taghabon
Kevin Taghabon
Kevin Taghabon is a freelance journalist based in Toronto. His reporting includes on site coverage of political movements in Canada and the US over the past several years. Kevin is a strong proponent of the creation of a fair industry for media workers in Canada. As a journalist and editor at The Hoser, Kevin has mainly reported on labour, police violence, and protests and demonstrations in Toronto.
